Harrison's Birthday Party

Here are some pictures of Heather's creative genius put to work for Harrison's recent birthday party...

The party had a 'Diego - the Jungle Animal Rescuer' theme.

It was great to celebrate with lots of old friends and new as well as family - first time ever for Heather's folks to be at ANY of our kids' birthday parties!

It has been a while since I've posted anything. This is partly because it is hard to write about life 'under the Marchegian sun' when we are so far from it.

Life is good. It really is. We miss Italy a lot. The kids just said it today. Heather is due in two weeks and a few days. We're ready - well, almost. Mentally, almost.

I recently was at a conference and during a moving time of worship, a young man in front of me reminded me of something important. Live life with the face God gave you. Don't hide behind the expectations of others. Sing at the top of your lungs and dance.

Intensive Class

Well, last week I taught a class here at Ozark Christian College on Cross-Cultural Church Planting. It was a lot of work, but fun and refreshing. I was blessed with thirteen great students and was encouraged to hear how many of them were heading into cross-cultural work around the world. We concluded the class on Friday by hosting the group at our house for lunch, talking about the importance of the table in the ministry of Jesus.

I love cilantro...

It has been great being back in a land where cilantro flows like honey. We've learned to grow our own in Italy, but it is small and takes time and effort. Here you can buy it by the bushel and it is cheap and plentiful. Everything tastes better with cilantro.

Merry Christmas!

The story goes like this:

There once was a church down by the port in Ancona, Italy. With the passing of time, shaken by earthquakes and beaten by the winds, the foundations of the church crumbled and the church toppled into the sea. A friend of ours shared with us that she remembers, as a little girl, playing along the pier and seeing the remains of the church under the water. She remembers seeing the cross from the top of the church under the surface. She told us that some say that if the wind was strong enough and the waves choppy enough, you could even hear the bells...

The story leads to this question:

If we were to raise her out of the water, if we were to restore her completely to what she was originally intended to be...what would she look like? If we were to remove her from all the traditions that humankind has surrounded her with and drowned her in...who would she be?
